Cindy Cai receives a KL2 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award!

Congratulations to Cindy Cai, M.D., in the BIDS Applied Health Sciences Informatics - Online Program, and a Johns Hopkins Assistant Professor, Ophthalmology-Retinal Vascular Service, who has received a KL2 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award!

Dr Cai's research endeavor will address diabetic retinopathy (DR), a leading cause for vision loss and it remains a major public health problem due to its continued rise in prevalence despite available medical treatments. Barriers in social determinants of health (SDoH) can lead to inadvertent lapses in DR care, which are major preventable risk factors for poor visual outcomes. This project will use novel data science approaches to investigate the SDoH that impact DR care and lay the groundwork for developing interventions to prevent vision loss from DR.
