The program consists of seven 3 credit courses/1.5 semester credit courses, one of which is the practicum. The entire program can be completed remotely (there is no need to be in or near Baltimore).
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of the Clinical Informatics Certificate Program, students will be able to:
- Support or lead development of strategic direction for health information within the clinical enterprise
- Participate in or lead development of clinical knowledge management tools
- Support or lead the health IT systems development, procurement, and implementation process
- Support or lead evaluation of health information systems and applications
- Represent the enterprise’s interest in the national health IT debates, and particularizes that debate to meet local needs
Intended Audience
- Clinicians (physicians, nurses, dentists, doctors of osteopathy)
- Health specialists, including librarians and information managers seeking health IT skills
- Programmers/software engineers seeking health IT skills
Admissions Criteria
Applicants should have one of the following three qualifications:

A previous master's or health-professional degree from an accredited college or university.

An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in a field relevant to Health IT, plus 3 years of experience in a field relevant to health IT. While experience in health IT itself is a higher priority, consideration will be given to experience in IT or related fields, other than health.

This program does not require the GRE.
Using the online application portal, applicants must provide official transcripts, a statement of purpose, 2 letters of recommendation and a CV.
Students matriculated at Johns Hopkins must apply for the Post Baccalaureate Certificate no later than two terms prior to their expected Post Baccalaureate Certificate completion date.
Johns Hopkins faculty, staff, and non-degree-seeking students may apply at any time through the School of Medicine.
Online students are charged per credit and pay at the time of course registration. Information for financial aid can be found here.
Part-time students who qualify for financial aid as citizens or permanent residents of the United States must also be registered for a minimum of 9 quarter credits combined in quarter 1 and quarter 2, and a minimum of 9 quarter credits combined in quarter 3 and quarter 4.
